An update on our efforts on the advocacy front to keep you and your family safe during the coronavirus pandemic.

Dear AKF Ambassador,
All of us at the American Kidney Fund hope you and your loved ones are well and staying safe during this uncertain time. The coronavirus crisis has upended life and poses a health risk to everyone, particularly people with chronic conditions such as kidney disease.
As lawmakers focus on the coronavirus and the disease it causes, COVID-19, AKF's advocacy efforts have been focused on ensuring Capitol Hill and the administration keep dialysis patients and transplant recipients in mind as the government continues to respond to the pandemic. AKF has also been hard at work in our mission to help kidney patients by providing information, resources and financial assistance specific to the coronavirus.

AKF Coronavirus Emergency Fund
On Monday, March 23, we opened the AKF Coronavirus Emergency Fund, which provides $250 one-time grants to patients affected by the coronavirus. Demand for this program was incredible and we quickly depleted $300,000 of initial funding. We are urgently identifying additional sources of funding to replenish the program, including making a request to Congress.
Grants will be provided to any low-income U.S. dialysis or recent kidney transplant patient who applies to AKF and demonstrates financial need. These grants will help patients pay for transportation, medication and food they need to survive. 100% of donations to the emergency fund will go directly to patients.
Information on the emergency fund and other resources for kidney patients on the coronavirus can be found on our website.
